Dim Sum @ EeSt, Westin KL

So, we had seen the decor of EeSt. You must be wondering how does the food compare to the aesthetics of the restaurant. I'll put it this way. The taste of the food is nothing to shout about, but I am not saying its bad. It's acceptable but nothing special. The best dim sum I had ever eaten is still Celestial Court at Sheraton Inperial (i no need to pay one for that. Got ppl belanja) but the price also a lot of difference lar. However, true to the spirit of EeSt, the presentation of the food is really a sight to behold. The fried dim sums come in plates which are a few times bigger, garnished with various condiments at the edge of the plates. Eating the dim sum is like going to an art gallery and then eating the art pieces after admiring them.

The waiter brought us a plate of appertizers when we were looking through the menu. It consists of some chicken bits, fried eel skin and japanese baby squids

There is cheese, yes, cheddar to be exact wrap in this beancurd skin. The balck colour sauce is the regular dim sum sweet sauce used like olive oil to drizzle around the plate like in western cuisine. Garnished with Japanese seaweed. Fusion to its core.

See the "kei ji" arrange like flower petals at the edge of the plate? No wonder the food takes so long to serve

The desserts....

The brown colour one is Double Boiled Apple and Aloe Vera in Rock Sugar Syrup

Green tea ice cream with red bean paste...typical japanese fare...nothing out of the ordinary.

This pudding is so "mango"...it has fresh chunks of mango in it

EeSt @ Westin, KL - Fusion at its Best

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go for Dim Sum Buffett brunch at EeSt, a fushion restaurant located at Westin, KL. Prior to this, I had heard a lot about the kick ass interior design of this restaurant. This restaurant is designed by well known interior designe, Ed Poole. For more info can look into http://www.poole-associates.com/EEST.htm.

Well, this EeSt does not disappoint (I'll keep this post on the aesthetics of EeSt, food will come later). The design weaves traditional elements and modern elements into one seamlessly. Bottles of wines did not look out of place next to the sushi bar. Pieces of modern art sits side by side with giant cauldrons of ancient chinese design. Mini pools scattered around the restaurant creates a sense of Zen. Coupled with the new age music meandering across the restaurant, the atmosphere was indeed surreal.

One of the many mini ponds. The ponds and wooden floor panel is so Japanese and the Mirrired wall is so urban. Simply brilliant.

Heck, even the tea cups have a east meets west feel to it.

Guoman SWAT Camp

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Before u get any ideas of Kevlar vest and H&K MP5 submachine guns or tactical shields or doing a dynamic breach on a terrorist invested building....SWAT here does not stand for Special Weapons and Tactics. It is instead the acronym of Superior Work Attitude Training Camp...u have to give it to them for the branding though ^_^"'

Our 2nd day was mainly spent onthis camp going through 5 obstacle courses.....this are not the most difficult i had experience b4 (The IOLTC that i attended back in Secondary School in Hutan Rekreasi Air Keroh was much tougher)...well, since this is not targeted at hormone raging teenagers, i guess they have to tone it down a bit.

Dunno y pik chui pointing at me??

JLT Training - Guoman Resort, Port Dickson (Part III)

Due to the friggin blogger server yesterday, i was cut short of giving a simple description of the rules for this Charade Game. Firstly, we divided ourselves into 2 teams. Since the number of guys and gals were equal....there was team Gal Power and team Macho Libre....

The game goes like this: Guys will send out a representative who will be given a movie title by the gals...then this guy will have to mime the title and get the other guys to get the correct answer within 2 minutes....the same holds true for the gals.....each correct answer one point...

Hui Peng was good....but not the other gals

Macho men were having a hard time too......

After a gallant fight, we still succumbed to the gals trickery....they even got "The Abyss" correct....damn....and our last question was "To Wong Foo With Love"....WTF??!!!

Of coz, the losing party will have to do some silly dance to entertain the gals....Like all boys in the world, we tried to wriggle ourselves out of it...but there was no escape.. : (

Sigh....in the end.....

JLT Training - Guoman Resort, Port Dickson (Part I)

Instead of Chilly Mountain tops, JLT picked bright, sunny beach for this year's training /family day.

On the Way in Bus

The sports club got a 44 seater to ferry us to Guoman. In the end, less then 20 peeps decided to take the bus. We had so much space on the bus that we could play chor tai dee on the bus. Hack, i think even mah jong was possible.

Arrive aledi...(pic took by Simone, I was busy throwing cards :D)

This cute little girl is the daughter of Jamal.....

Tai Kar Cheh thinks she is so cute she can;t stop cuddling her

Handing out meal vouchers

One for the album....

Of coz lar....the whole purpose of this trip is to give the staff of JLT some motivation through some classroom training lar....this time the training was not something specific like team work, stress management etc etc....instead it was something more general titled "Soaring Eagles" teaching us about life in general. Josh got some former bigshot from Shell named Victor as the trainer. Well, the training wasn't that bad....at least it was interesting and the speaker didn't made everyone sleep.

i think allen ang must be asking where is the photography....didn't have much time for those lar...here r 2 though.....but if u looking for sunset or sea view photos....look elsewhere...weather did not permit and the beach is so polluted it was really a turnoff....

Malaysia Hari Ini...Duh!!!

Note: Yes, yes. I had been bloody lazy. Long time no update...partly because i fed up of waiting to upload photos, i will try to update photo free post from time to time. Photos will be only for special occasions.

Today i was having a discussion with heong jie and simone on my haircut. U see, yesterday i went for a haircut and my regular hairdresser, thedirector, Cate rests on Mondays. Hence, I opted for senior cut instead of director cut and the outcome was, well, disastrous. Kena flak from left and right ^_^'" Then Simone said i am a guy no need for wat director cut lar...go mamak barber can kau tim aledi..... then i said, nowadays mamak barber not the mamak cut hair liao lar, the mamak onli sit at counter collect money, foreign worker "ah chai" do the cutting....then suddenlly i had a train of thought

I remember a few years ago, foreign worker(especially indons) are a mainstay only in the construction, manufacturing sector and also the domestic help sector. Then slowly, the influx of foreign workers began to crowd into various other industries such as plantation, cleaners, security guards (gurkhas, regardless whether they r real gurkhas or not) etc etc. In the past one of 2 years, i noticed an alarming rate of the increase of foreign workers. U go to KLCC the cleaners r foreign workers. U go to mamak barber there are foreign barbers. This takes the cake....last thursday i went to a hawker centre in kajang with Monica and guess wat.....onli the boss sitting at the counter is bladi local. The other workers are all...i mean ALL foreign workers...the coffee maker aka food court is foreign worker...the wantan mee cook is foreign....the tom yam mee man is foreign....the porridge lady is foreign....hack...even the char koay tiou man is foreign....imagine, a burmese tossing wantan mee...WAT DA FARK!!!!! One can't help but think y is it so hard to get local help while there are like how many millions of jobless grads out there....well, of coz i don't expect a BBA (Hons) bugger to want to toss wantan mee in a food court lar....

With such a BLADI HUGE influx of foreign workers into the country, we all know wat will the consequences be to the country and the society. I am confident that all of us in my age group had done numerous of "Kesan-kesan Kemasukan Pendatang Asing ke Malaysia" essays during our SPM days :p The one that i most cannot tahan is the threat these foreign worker pose to us Malaysians. The ever growing population of foreign workers had made Malaysia a very unsafe place to be. I am not saying that all crimes are purpetruated (watever the spelling) by foreigners but it is undeniable that a huge chunk of crimes are committed by them. Coupled with the lack of manpower in our police force, this had made Malaysia, especially in big cities like KL, into some sort like a Cowboy Town. Ladies or even Men cannot feel safe when they are walking alone at night. Everyone tries to avoid going out after dark like in Pensylvannia. Ladies walking in the street always seems so edgy like they high on Starbucks coffee. Now hands up those who had been snatched/robbed/house broken into etc etc before.....Eventhough they kiasu, i sort of admire singaporeans becoz they really can feel safe....i have seen a girl walking in a not so well lit road in Singapore without much of a bother....she even seemed relax. And my cousin from Singapore says that they can go to their MRT station after 9pm alone and it's okay...that's wat she always does anyways...no need to worry about snatch thieves, rapists, vampire, werewolves etc etc...

U know foreign workers is such a mainstay in our society that i really think instead of making teh tarik in space (now that's for another story, bladi disgrace and insult to Malaysian's intelligence. The Russkies must be laughing their asses off), we should ask that lucky angkasa-naut to bring along an indon maid instead....now that is truly Malaysia....WAT DA FARK!!!!!!

Bangkok - City of a Thousand Smiles Part III

Yes, i surrender...i am a lazy blogger...the bangkok trip was almost a month ago and i had yet to finish posting all the photos....anyways the highlight of Day 1 was the dinner cruise...the dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya was really an experience of a lifetime...from the cruise we can see the banks of the great river from a whole diffferent perspective. Millenneas of history of a proud nation in its full spendour in the night....really made me regreted that i did not got myself an SLR since the beginning...now accumulating funds to get a Nikon D70s or Canon EOS 350D
