Of Carnivores and Dying Batteries

Today brought Ah Zhen to Midvalley for lunch or rather high tea. I think a few days of vegetarian dieet had taken a toll on him...LOL. After getting the car parked was already 3 something. Remind me not to go to MV on a weekend next time. Ended up in a Taiwanese Restaurant at the ground floor (forgot the name, its not Feng Lye. That's at the top floor).

I ordered this 四川麻辣汤...not bad, not that
麻辣 at allAh Zhen ordered this 鸡扒蛋炒饭

I ordered the 拉面 variety

and some 小龙包

After that, found out that there is a Fashion Week going on at MV. Camped myself out for the 5pm show. When shooting half way found out that my Speedlite batteries were dying. Took damn long to recycle the flash. I forgot to charge them. All shots ruined. You really can't do a 1/60 shutter speed on 100mm plus focal length....no matter how good your camera's VR or IS or SR whatever you want to call it...damn.....

Chris and the Town Parkbench Theories

Lonely Bench........staring at the wide wide world....in the park where other denizens find respite from the hustle and bustle of the city...yet he can't find any....

" There's nothing you can do
I've already started, started, started
To unwrite every song I ever wrote about you
And as you lie to my heart, my heart, my heart lies there bleeding, bleeding
But as the wounds heal it makes this thing so damned easy"
- Jamie Scott and the Town, Runaway Train

Whose the Clown now, he seemed to be mocking me. Makes me wonder too.............

"Did the clown
Make you Smile
He was only your fool for a while
And left you wondering there."
- Norah Jones, Carnival Town

Forbidden Kingdom...ptui!!!!

I just got back from watching Forbidden Kingdom, the highly anticipated movie featuring Jet Li and Jackie Chan. I was not expecting much out of this movie since it is Jackie Chan vehicle, but boy...u got to watch it to understand how to get disappointed even with low expectations.

Firstly, it is the stupid plot. Or the non of it. Boy gets bullied, boy got hurt, boy transported to an imaginary land, boy learns kung fu, boy falls in love, boy saves the imaginary world, boy get's back to real world, boy kicks bully's ass, boy sees imaginary gal fren in real world. Get real dude, how predictable and sugar coated can the plot be?

Then it is the way the director tries to appeal to every audience in the world. Cheap skate kung fu moves to appease the Western audience, chopped up "Journey to the West" for the Asian audience (Chinese authority should assassinate the script writer for defiling one of the classics of Chinese Literature) . Try Penang Rojak style of movie of Lord of the Rings, Journey to the West, David Carridan and hack, even Doraemon (no, serious..really) and you get this joke that is the Forbidden Kingdom. Bloody hell, 玉王大帝 that speaks English with a American slang...u must be shitting me. It is a bloody wonder we don't see Marco Polo learning to make Spaghetti at some point of the movie. This is one so so confused story that even Jackie's trade mark slapstick humour failed to save the day.

The only thing that make this movie slightly bearable are the 2 lady leads, 李冰冰 and 刘亦菲.
冰冰 did especially portraying the cruelness and angst of 白发魔女.

Conclusion of all this, a waste of talent of 2 of the best kung fu exponents of our generation. A sign of new low for Asian Cinema. Hang on, is this an Asian Movie trying to be Western or the other round. Tsk tsk tsk.....

Time Flies and Goal Flies

I went back to Seremban over the weekend as my god sis from Singapore was back with his 1 year old son. There, I can't help but think how fast does time flies. We were reminiscing on my childhood days when I was under their care and my antics when I was a baby compared to my godma's 4 grand children. Can't believe that it was 25 years ago that i was sent to my godma for the first time to be baby-sitted. Now, I am already 26 years old and my godma already have 4 grandchildren. Looking at the 4 kids, especially the 2 one year olds, can't help myself but to think where will everyone be in another 20 years time. You might be saying its a long way down the road, but that's what everyone says when uncle was fetching me back from Primary One almost 20 years ago.

Talking about things that fly, goals are flying in from Nando too. He is the first Liverpool player to score 30 goals since Robbie Fowler after scoring against Blackburn. The cheeky commentator commented that "Everything will be OK once he gets settled, right?" *laughter**... ^_^"' Another inspirational performance by Stevie, but Alonso is again a disappointment. He really is a shadow of his old self. The ref is a much more bigger disgrace, call me bias but he at least made 4 bad calls against Liverpool. I didn't know "sock 'em if you can't beat 'em" is allowed in football....

Anyways, good thing that we have stretch our advantage against Everton to 5 points,. Only blip is that we conceded a soft goal at the 92nd minute...u really could see Carra having a real go at Skrtel and co for switching off....the lad from Slovakia must had been scared shitless :D Well, that's Carra for u....

Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown is brilliant...about a guy who lose everything (career, love, family) but finding a quirky gal that brought him back up and showing him what life is all about. All is not lost even when everything looked so bleak...

This light hearted movie has everything...comedy, drama, family and best of all...great music that suits every mood Cameron Crowe is trying to portrait. Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst carried their character to perfection. I have always say that the MJ character in spidey really doesn't justify her talent and her performance in E-Town confirms this even more.

Look out for Alec Baldwin's brilliant cameo as Orlando's boss, Phil. I would really really use the phrase "the sound of shit hitting the fan...can you hear that?" in one of my business meetings. hahahaha...

Rafa Will Have The Last Laughed

When 'pool was performing badly 2 or 3 months ago, Rafa was slated left, right and center for his rotation policy. Admittedly, all things have its pros and cons but yesterday's ECL q-final match against Arsenal, all the pros of Rafa's rotation policy shone through. Having indulged in the luxury of resting Stevie, Nando and a string of other first team players for the BPL match at Emigrants Stadium on Saturday, our lads looked just the bit much fresher compared to the young guns. Cesc, in particular, looked exhausted throughout the match.

Rotation aside, I feel that we performed quite well last night. Besides for the opening quarter of the first half and a short period of the second half, we pretty much had the upper hand over the emigrants. Again it took the brilliance of Nando to put us scousers ahead with a cute turn and super strike into the top corner. I have always said that there a certain things that u can't couch into a player and instinct is one of those. Nando didn't even looked up when he dispatched the ball into the goal. He just knew where the goal was by instinct. To be fair, Theo displayed the same kind of brilliance when he race 70 yards down the right flank to set up Adebayor for arsenal's 2nd goal.

However, Babel came to the rescue when he was adjudged to have been bundled over by Toure. I admit that we were a bit lucky to get that pen. It was those kind of foul where some ref would have given it, while some ref might not. But hell, i think its about time Liverpool have a slice of luck. Babel place the tie beyond doubt on the 92nd minute when Arsenal where "all hands on deck" trying to get their third goal.

After the pulsating match, we have CSKA London waiting for us in the quarter finals. The Blue Shite were always in the path when Liverpool got to the finals for the last 2 occasions (on the first occasion, as they say it, it is now History). This time I really pray that it won't be 3rd time lucky for the blue shites. Anyways, Rafa shouldn't sweat too much as Avram is not even in the league of Rafa when it comes to tactical knowledge. Hack, he haven't even got his license from UEFA yet. God knows how UEFA and FA allowed him to continue to coach Chelski.

BTW, just got back from watching Nim's Island. Nothing much to shout about. Just a run of the mill feel good movie for the whole family. Can't wait for Iron Man though....

Never Go For Facial When Have Flu

Yesterday I took leave and went to service my car. After that I had booked an appointment for facial. Over the weekend there where signs of flu coming and it hit me with coughing, running nose on Monday.

Despite my logical mind urging me to cancel the facial appointment, I went ahead with it. When its time to apply the mask, the beautician covered my mouth too. I have to breath through my semi-blocked nose. The poor girl have to dig a hole at the mask in the mouth area after seeing that I was literally drowning in mask...

Lesson, never go for facial when having flu...it ain't pretty, and for the 10 seconds I felt like I was scaling Mount Everest....

Of a New Laptop and the Arsenal Trilogy

Got myself a new laptop - Dell Inspiron 5200. Finally i am able to do my stuff faster. I had been using my cousin's deserted P4 desktop all these while and it had being driving me nuts, especially when processing my RAW photos. I have to quit all other programs or else the whole damn thing will crash. Now it seems that i can work at lightning speed. This afternoon I process 14 pics and upload it to Facebook within half an hour. Previously it usually will take me a whole night to do that on the P4.

Part 2 of the Arsenal trilogy was concluded with another 1 -1 draw. Today's performance was much better compared to the CL match. We really gave the Emigrants a run for their money, especially in the first half. I think the second string players really wanted to impress. Crouchy was lively throughout the match. Gerry Armstrong did commented that why he is not playing as much is a mystery to him. Well, to me its no mystery. The answer is Fernando Torres :p

Anyhow when i saw the team sheet, I went who the fuck is Plessit. Turns out he is the Marscherano of the reserves. I have to say that I am quite impress by this Plessit. He has composure on the ball and he do the simple things right. That is the first step towards a great player. Skrtel is growing from strength to strength. I don't think we will have any problem with defence next season. We have Carra, Skrtel, Dagger and Hyypia. That will make any striker shake in fear.

The Achilles heel is again Pennant and Riise. I think it really is high time for Rafa to ship them out. Tapir really wants Jaoquin and David Villa to help out Nando. But I think a more realistic target will be David Bentley.

Going into this Wednesday CL match, I really do fancy our chances. But the boys should not take anything for granted, after all the Gunners did put 2 pass AC Milan at San Siro. But of course the San Siro cannot be compared to Anfield on a European night.

YNWA.....
